Out of the Fire Clay Studio is a community clay studio in Evanston, Illinois offering shared studio space for artists through studio membership as well as classes, workshops, and events celebrating clay, community, and conversation. All are welcome here, and we hope our space will provide a creative outlet, a community of support, and a respite from the worries of the world.
Out of the Fire Clay Studio began with artists Stephanie Samuels and Amber Matthews looking for a new studio space. Not finding what they were looking for, they decided to open their own community studio at 1042 Wesley. Fireheads Clay Studio opened in 2023 and hosted 6 artist members. In January of 2024, a fire in the building destroyed their studio. In the aftermath, Stephanie and Amber collaborated on an installation about their experience titled "Out of the Fire." This title felt like a fitting new name for the recovering studio that honored their experience.
We are now in the process of setting up our new studio at 1400 Greenleaf (same building but on the corner) and look forward to reopening in late July or early August.
